The war “to end all wars” is the core of this survey. What caused WWI? Why did so many of the “-isms” of the 20th century, e.g. fascism, communism, corporatism, Nazism, get birthed in the fields of the Somme? Other academic inquiries include the development of fully mobilized war economies, the end of Empires and Monarchies and the rise of Imperial Japan in the Pacific.
